Her Kitchen – a personalised culinary experience for guests to learn how to cook (and enjoy) local Maldivian recipes Saoke Restaurant designed by Japanese restaurant architect Noriyoshi Muramatsu replete with Kotatsu seating and elegant lounge to Nikkei cuisine. Italian Restaurant – a piece of Italy in the midst of the Maldives from Nonna-approved pastas to obligatory Bellini aperitivos and grappa digestives. Mura Bar – comprising cabanas and infinity pods overlooking the sandy white beach and iridescent sea. With its vibrant ocean and lush landscapes JOALI can arrange activities like snorkeling with manta rays learning about coral degradation in the underwater museum wakeboarding to chartered yacht and dhoni excursions as well as meeting with local communities. An art map of the hotel takes guests on an art and sculpture tour of the island in a scavenger hunt of unique works designed specifically for Joali.

“Imagine the perfect tranquil island getaway where all of your needs are not just met, but anticipated beforehand. This is the beginning of the Joali experience. After significant research on where my honeymoon should be, I chose Maldives over Bora Bora to look for a place where you can truly be secluded and luxury is imbibed in the resorts. Joali, in particular stood out as an ultraluxury resort even within the Maldives and its focus on artwork was an immediate draw. From first landing on the capital of Maldives, Male, prepare for the Joali experience where you are met by one of the employees who whisks you away to a well appointed SUV with tranquil music playing, videos of the Joali hotel, bottled waters. A short drive later you are taken to a Joali airport lounge which has is wonderfully designed, and is the perfect cool temperature (which is significant since right outside of the lounge it is unbearably humid in the airport). There are nice floor to ceiling windows where you can lazily watch the seaplanes go by as you await your own to Muravandhoo where Joali is situated. After a short seaplane ride you are met with music, an island drink, and your Jadugar (which I believe is Hindi for "Magician") who is your 24 hrs/day butler for your entire stay. He took our luggage and ourselves on a short golf cart ride to our Overwater Villa which was immaculate, incredibly spacious, and beautifully designed with its high ceilings and modern amenities. Pictures do not do it justice. Our outdoor pool, hammock, shower, lounge area, made you really need to never leave the villa. The next 10 days of our journey were filled with cocktail classes, snorkeling, parasailing, jetskiing, and wine tastings. We also got the opportunity to speak directly with staff during a cocktail hour and learned a lot from one marine biologist. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive and the food is incredible. Their Japanese restaurant, Saoke, is so good you would think you were in Tokyo - except for the overwater view you get of sharks and fish in the ocean while you dine reminds you that you're in paradise. Breakfast is included in the package and you were met with glasses of unique champagne cocktails if you desired, and entire room dedicated to cold cuts and cheeses, as well as a full menu of hot meal choices with local and Maldivian meal choices. Their Halloumi cheese and their Eggs Benedict were standouts. The highlight of our culinary experience would have to be a private seven-course dinner for two we had on the beach that included grilled Maldivian lobster as well as Wagyu beef. I could continue to write another 1,000 words about how beautiful the location is, how wonderful the staff are, and how you can do as many activities or as few as you want and still having the trip of a lifetime. Ultimately, you have to visit yourself. Thank you Joali, and we will be sure to visit again soon!”
